When these two initial booked me back in the summer they opted out of doing engagement photos. They weren’t into the idea of dressing up and standing by a white fence; it just wasn’t them. I told her while that’s ONE WAY to do engagement photos, you can make your engagements be whatever you want them to be. You don’t have to be dressed up, you don’t have to be in a field with tall grass, or a barn, or perfectly manicured park. You can be as casual or as fancy as you want and I’m firm believer in letting people be their real selves for engagements. Weddings (for the most part) is where you get all dressed up and looking super swanky. Your engagement session is where you can be your normal selves. I showed her Brandon & Sydney’s engagement session at 3rd Turn Brewing, the session I did with Jenny & Rob at Joe Ley Antique store and Kara & Ty’s engagement session they did with their horses. Needless to say, a few months later they had a change of heart. 😉
So, long story short, make your engagement photos whatever you want them to be.
Photographer’s Note: We shot this session on a Thursday right at their opening time (4pm) to avoid crowds and in general, not be in the way of their patrons. Also note, (if you’re facing 3rd Turn Brewing Oldham Gardens from the road) the property to the right is a private residence. They don’t like people on their property (rightfully so) so just stay away from the right side.
